How to get more Google reviews without being pushy

More reviews means more trust and better rankings on Google Maps. Here’s how to ask in a way customers are happy to say yes to.

Google reviews do two jobs: they help you rank higher on Google Maps, and they convince people to call you instead of the next business. Most happy customers will leave one, they just need a simple reason and an easy link.

1. Get your review link

In your Google Business Profile, choose “Ask for reviews” to copy your short link. Save it somewhere you can paste it quickly.

2. Ask at the right moment

Ask when the customer is happiest: just after a job is finished, a treatment went well, or a parcel arrived. A quick, friendly line works: “If you were happy with us, a Google review would really help a small business like ours.”

3. Make it one tap

  • Send the link by text or WhatsApp after the job
  • Add it to your email signature and invoices
  • Put a QR code on your counter, receipts or business cards

4. Reply to every review

Thank people by name for good reviews. For bad ones, stay calm, apologise where it’s fair, and offer to sort it out offline. Future customers read your replies.

5. Don’t break the rules

Don’t offer discounts or gifts for reviews, don’t write fake ones, and don’t only ask customers you know are happy through a filter. Google can remove reviews, or your profile, for this.

6. Make it a habit

A steady trickle of reviews beats a burst once a year. Aim for a few every month.
